Hello Dear Readers,
When I began my writing session yesterday, I believed that I would complete my manuscript by the end of the day. But that did not happen. Sometime after my first writing session, I lost steam. So, I have kept it for the weekend or whenever I can focus on it.
I need to give a fitting farewell to my beloved characters. As I reach the end of the first draft, I feel sad and happy. Sad because I have to let go of the characters and step out of their world, and happy because I have done it again—I have finished a novel for the sixth time in my life.
I am not a particularly ambitious or focused person, but whenever the need arose, I proved to myself that I could do it.
Most people who know me from my student and professional life might say that I am motivated. I don’t believe it myself. It might appear to the world that I am self-motivated. But it takes a lot of effort. It doesn’t come naturally to me.
I can easily get distracted, but I have somehow managed to finish stories. If I had been motivated enough, I might have also found myself an agent and a publisher.
But that’s about what I have done in the past. I am now looking forward to a break before I touch the manuscript again—at least six weeks, if not more. I don’t usually prefer such a long break, but circumstances and life plans are such that I won’t touch the manuscript for some time.
Meanwhile, I’ll continue with my weekend writing and I also have a few other projects in mind. So far, I have posted seventy-seven stories on this blog, including the fifty-two that are part of the collection Flood. Rinse. Drain. Repeat.
It will be fun to see if I can compile a few more into another collection next year.
As far as reading goes, I have been too busy (and distracted) tying up the loose ends (as many as I can remember) of my novel to make any substantial progress. Intertidal still keeps me company on certain mornings. There are meditations in the book that you could follow if you live close enough to nature.
Here’s my weekend short story. I hope you enjoy it.
Happy Reading!
